November 12, 2008, (Sawf News) - The allergic shock that Britney Spears' younger son, Jayden James, 2, experienced at approximately 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 9, was caused by shellfish, says a member of Kevin Federline's family.
"Jayden's had a sensitivity to shellfish in the past, although he's never been formally tested for it. He has been now," the family member told OK! magazine for their upcoming issue out Thursday, November 13. "Britney was extremely upset."
The scare occurred during a barbecue lunch at Britney's family home, Serenity, in Kentwood, La., Jayden experienced breathing difficulty, became non-responsive and developed hives.
Britney called 9-1-1 but was told an ambulance would take 30 minutes to arrive and advised to drive to the hospital instead.
A bodyguard drove Britney and Jayden to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
"The doctors weren't able to immediately identify the problem, but later determined Jayden had suffered an allergic reaction to something he'd eaten," says a source.
