December 03, 2008, (Sawf News) - Susan Montford penned and directed thriller While She Was Out stars Kim Basinger, Lukas Haas and Jamie Starr.
The film's production began on February 12, 2006 and it is due for a limited release in theaters on December 12, 2008. It will first release in New York and Los Angeles, followed by other cities.
The film is based on a short story by Edward Bryant.
Della Myers (Kim Basinger) is a suburban housewife who is a doting mother to her twins. Her appearance or the family's home does not take priority over the children and that upsets her abusive husband Kenneth (Craig Sheffer). On Christmas Eve she drives to the mall to get some gift wrapping paper. The parking place is packed with cars and the only spot she could have used has an old car occupying two parking spots. She leaves the message 'Selfish Jerk' on the car.
When she returns, she is confronted by four thugs - the old car owner, Chuckie (Lukas Haas), the Afro-American Huey (Jamie Starr), the Chinese-American Vingh (Leonard Wu) and the Latin Tomás (Luis Chávez) - who block her from entering her car. When the security guard of the mall intervenes, Chuckie shoots him on his head.
Della flees in her car but is chased by the thugs. While speeding to escape she wrecks her car in a wayside lonely forest. She grabs her toolbox and hides in the forest and fights for her life.
The film was made in a considerably low budget since it was shot documentary style in real time. Producer Don Murphy is overseeing the production. The film is rated R For strong violence and language.
